EZ ReKey Practice Lock

Postby Boombaye » 2 Nov 2008 23:16

I was wondering, is this a good practice cylinder. I need a new practice lock because i know mine inside and out, and with this i can interchange pins.

Please give feedback.

If this isn't a good practice lock please give suggestions on what would be better than this.

It looks like it would be good enough, and at least it comes with some spare pins for when you want to re key it, or loose some pins, also having some spool pins would be handy.

It is pretty good and comparable to just buying a deadbolt because of the addition of extra bottom pins and security pins. One thing I can't attest to is the tolerances of the practice lock itself, so it may be much easier to pick than a standard deadbolt with the same pin arrangements.

FWIW, it is a bit more expensive than I'd go for if I were you.

You might want to save your money for the deadbolt. I have the clear plastic practice lock that comes with all spools for the drivers and thought that it would be a real challenge. Once I received it, it became apparent that it was not the same as a "real" lock. It was easily raked which surpised me with five spool drivers. I would have to actually manipulate the plug with the tension wrench just to get a false set to practice picking a spool security pin. Otherwise it would just fly open. It was almost worthless for developing any sort of a feel for lockpicking. This may not be the case with all of these practice cylinders, but It was 50 bucks I wish I'd spent else where.
