I'm new - but need some help

Postby Doobrey » 10 Jan 2009 6:24

Hi everyone,

As the title says, im new to this and want it to be my new hobby. I have read a lot of the newbies articles about how locks work and how to start picking, and have even managed my first lock pick yesterday (my filling cabinet...managed to lock and unlock it :D )...

I have my nice new set of picks (Southord MPXS-11) so I think I am all set.

The problem I have is trying to pick the patio door. It's a GE GE lock ? (Well that's what it says on the lock anyhow) and the key looks exactly the same as a yale lock. When I look at the lock face on, its zig-zag in shape, so, I place my tension wrench into the lock and start feeling around. I can feel 5 pins which I manage to push them down (from the rear) and scrape forward. If I release the tension, I can hear the pins dropping back into place. Now, I can see down the lock that one pin pushes down (roughly in the centre) but keeps popping up. Is it that I have too little tension?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Doobs...

Your problem is that you are picking locks that are in use and my suggestion is not pick locks in use. Why? Because if you mess it up or the lock breaks or wears down, it will give you problems later on.

Get some cheap practice locks from a hardware store or locksmith or some other place.

Please get some practice locks, we cannot help you pick a lock that is in use. You can damage the lock and cause many problems for yourself.
