Lock Measurements

Postby Adalan » 20 Feb 2009 9:18

Hey Everyone,

I'm in the process of designing a practice lock stand similar to that seen at http://www.lockpickshop.com/UHFX.html, I'm hoping everyone can help me out with some lock dimensions as I'm having a hell of a time finding the dimensions I need. I'm trying to find the largest size mortise lock they make so I can make sure my stand will fit any I might end up getting in the future. From what I've found, they don't seem to be standard and I am not sure where to find a good list of dimensions.

Also, I'm also curious if cylinder of this type: http://www.lockpickshop.com/5PPC.html are pretty standard. Ultimately, I want this stand to fit 90% of what I am going to come across. It's going to be tooled out of aluminum.

Thanks everyone!

The largest would be a Mogul cylinder but you probably won't be picking any of those. Almost 99% of mortise cylinders are the same size. Will you be tapping it or not? If so the tap costs about the same as the whole stand you posted.

Why don't For the mortise cylinder I would just use an old Adams rite lock and screw it into that, then mount the Adams Rite in a vise.

Very nice. I am quite impressed, how long did it take?

I keep forgetting it is a hobby or a sport with a lot of you guys rather than a livelihood.
