AMGOR 60mm Padlock

Postby Major Boothroyd » 9 Mar 2009 6:26

Came across one of these about a month ago, several searches I did came up with nothing. I haven't seen the key, but the key-hole is completely round with visible key pins. Starting to think I may be getting the name wrong since I can find absolutely nothing on it. Not sure what to even compare it to.

So, ya, just looking for a bit of general info on appearance and manufacturer. Any help, as always, much appreciated. :D

That's too bad, I'm afraid I don't have access to the high security section yet. But that's okay, I know who's lock it is and I'll probably be getting another look at it on Thursday and if I'm lucky enough and don't forget the camera I'll post some pictures.

A little late but here they are, got a quick look inside and seems like it's five pins with the being much lower than the others which really isn't all that unusal, but the lock is. So if anyone has info on it please share, unless of course it's advanced which doesn't really seem to be the case.

It certainly looks like a Maxis mechanism to me. I had not heard of them in padlocks before though. A nifty little lock that has some pretty harsh security pins in it. As well, the last pin tumbler contains a special concave pin with a ball bearing as the driver pin and a *very* strong spring in order to have a "home" position to pull the key key out a such. I am sure it has been talked about before in these forums, but if you want to wait, I will be doing a breakdown of it soon once I get a light tent set up...

Thanks, can't wait to see your breakdown, in the meanwhile I'll see what I can find with google and around here with the info you gave.

Has some pictures if anyone else's interested, seems there's not too much about it anywhere.

Picking of the Maxis lock is fairly easy once you know the trick. The trick is tension the pin stack directly, but lightly so the pins are still mobile. I believe this lock could also be bumped if you had a bumpkey for it.

How would that work?

Major,

For picking, he means to wedge the pick against the plug and the pins, allowing you to tension off that but not excessively as it would (obviously) prevent pins from being lifted.

As for bumping, I agree with n2oah. It is just a fluted key, like the really early Yale pin tumbler models; no reason that it would not be susceptible to bumping. The only difference is that making the bumpkey isn't as easy because you can't just file away the excess bitting.
