No, this time I wasn't going to yell search.

The 234 is a standard brass type padlock if memory serves. I don't see many of those things being all the way up here in Canada, but I believe that a pick similar to the peterson reach works quite well on those.

I also seem to remember them having at least 1 spool pin, maybe two.

It's been a while, so that is about the best advice I can give you. If you ahve the key, it's cheating and all, but you could base your picking on the key, and get familiar with what you are feeling.

If you don't have a key, you could impression the thing, and then pick it.

If this thing is master keyed, it may have the same problem that old American Locks have. After a year or two, the master pins start catching, even if you have the proper key. This could be causing you problems if it is master keyed.

Other than that, try a reach type tool. Or a small diamond.

I just want to say that I hate lockwood padlocks - they're too well made and usually the keyways are really really rediculously curvy....

thanks for the advice, tho i only just read it then so i havent tryed it yet
and it is defanatly master keyed so thats proberly the problem. but i might try impressioning it maby try make a key for it (i dont have one) but i do agree whith what the rest of you say... most loockwoods are evil and have a tendancy to have broched or paracentric keyways makeing them even more evil. execpt the new 245's there kinda easy and ussally have normal keyways (if you could call anything normal)

but if it does have a spool pin in it i might just cut it open with a hacksaw

also what kind of pick is a 'paterson reach' i only use homemade and have never actually seen any store bought picks and i have no idea what a' paterson reach' looks like. can you post a pic of it or tell me where to find one

ok standard 234 padlocks(no removable core) come with no security pins and are quiet easy to pick, they have standard keyways.

when the are modified for people who want security and master key system, they mainly use a lq or ls keyway, and i find the older they get, the harder they get to pick

245/45 are easy to pick, yes, but no-one uses spools any more in aus
