What is a time delay locks, how it works?

Its a lock, usually on a vault or other safe, that can only be opened at certain times of the day.

The only time delay locks I have played with are on safes ( don't know if you can get them for anything else) the digital ones you enter your pin, wait for the time delay and enter the pin again and with mechanical time delays its like a wind up clock in the locking mechanism which will prevent the bolt from being retracted until the time is up, time delay locks are very usefull in shops and banks to help deter someone from robbing the store.

vault doors sometimes have mechanical timers that only allow the door to be unlocked during certain hours. This prevents a bank manager from returning after hours and robbing the vault. It also prevents a thief from opening the safe by manipulating the lock after hours.
