Works when you are home.

Do crooks break in if they know you are home ? I thought they would try to determine the place was empty, to avoid conflict.

Some of the stuff you come up with cracks me up. You are your own little freak parade now aren’t you? And you’ve got the freak going on with that one now. Everybody sing “Baby got back….” :)

As already mentioned, this only provides additional security while you're inside the house... in which case, it's not exactly necessary, because nobody in their right mind is gonna break into your house if they think you're there. Unless an assassin is after you, that is.

I don't see how this thing prevents the lock from being picked; as far as I can tell, it only stops the door from being pushed open after the lock is opened from the outside... technically that's the same thing, but it's kinda false advertising. :P A simple chain or bolt latch would do the exact same job, and is much cheaper.

Now, if you had an electronic deadbolt on the inside of the door which could be locked/unlocked via a remote device on your keychain, that'd be a different story.

Funny that because 40% of burglaries in the UK are commited whilst the occupants are inside!

It's mostly for car keys so they can steal the car too, load up the plasma in the boot and they are home free most of the time.

Horrible acting in the video.
Other than that would a thief really pick your lock?
I think i would feel safer with bars on the windows and doors.

A lot of opportunity thieves will hit homes while the occupants are in because they know the doors are more likely to be unlocked.

It's called a "home invasion" when the private dwelling is occupied. And according to the FBI, it's almost tripled in the US since 1995.

Panic Rooms are the answer for the "paranoid"... In fact - there was a movie called just that - Panic Room with Jodie Foster

How do you figure? The bolt is physically attached to the inner handle. The product prevents the inner handle from rotating. Gonna take an AWFULLY big tension wrench to overcome that! (at least, that's what I see in the video) And a chain isn't going to keep the handle from rotating unless you wrap it around the handle a few times and bolt it to the floor.

I just finally watched the video, that thing is a joke! You can only use it when you're home anyways, and it does not stop:

- Breaking the glass in the door and reaching through. (Notice how every door in that video had glass panes?)
- Drilling through the deadbolt to drill out the screws.
- Crowbarring the door.
- Kicking the door open.
- Picking/bumping/drilling the lock cylinder, then driving a couple screws or thin chisel into it to give you the leverage to turn it with a longer lever, especially with this advertised on their own Tech Specs page:
"Portability: Can be attached with double sided tape or hook and loop fasteners for temporary use"

And I love how they tried to play up the "nationwide epidemic of bumping!!!", showing pictures of a young woman, old people and other supposedly easily frightened customers.

It's just another little extra-2-seconds-of-security device.
