padlock- hard material + hard to open -Squire SS65CS or ?

Postby alcalina » 19 Apr 2009 9:08

Hi Everybody

Just the resume
I found good chain, but I can´t find a padlock in the same level of the material of the chain (16mm quadruple tempered) and with a mechanis very HARD to pick.
I can find good padlock material like squire ss65cs or very good locks http://www.google.com/url?sa=U&start=2&q=http://wiki.whatthehack.org/images/0/00/BumpkeyPresentatie.pdf&ei=iSzrSZ9EieG2B6K5-MMF&sig2=oW78dFGLULC0CUuCqV_2Ng&usg=AFQjCNGqrZCHfotzfz6W23HB124fccpJHA
but I can´t find they together

****************

I have a new motorcycle ( first one) and I want to protect.
I already put a disc lock, alarm and its just missing the chain+padlock

Looking around I found the perfect chain, so hard that is impossible to cut in manual ways but the padlock is the problem.

Squire SS65CS appear to be kind of easy to open with the right lockpicking ( correct me if I´m wrong).
BUT the metal in the Squire SS65CS is very good ( not good as the chain but good)
Here is the product and chain if want to see
http://www.almax-security-chains.co.uk/ofcmje75/All-Products/c-1-73/

My topic I just created is related with this one
http://www.lockpicking101.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=6104&start=0
almost answer my questions :) :?:

So, I found some questions that is hard for me to answer with google I think its my lack of knowledge's in lockpicking.

Big questions
* Is there any padlock with a very hard (case and the lock) to use with the chain(the best I found was Squire SS65CS and http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=19381 )?
* If not, Can I just change the cylinder and put something like Evva 3KS?

Minor questions
Why am I bothering to buy a super 16mm chain if the padlock material isn't in the same grade :D ?
(I will buy a church padlock with 2kg  )

So, basically I think your asking for a high security padlock, with hardened case/materials.

You will be hard pressed to find anything at the same "grade" as your chain. You will however, find something that will work well.

Hope this helps, and I am sure someone else will come along and offer you some actual lock advice, as I am not in the UK.

First off it's important you understand if someone wants your motorcycle they are going to take it. There is really no point in spending tons of money on a lock and chain. All they do it keep honest people away. The bad guys will get it no matter what lock you are using.

It's true, but IMO, if the bad guy want A motorbike (even if he is hard to please and want that particular model  ), he will probably look for the easiest to take. So looking for a good chain and lock might be useful.
I do not apply this logic for myself, but I understand it.

.

So far I find this 3 options

CEN grade 5 with multi lock key (Mul-T-Lock C16 http://www.saundersonsecurity.co.uk/acatalog/Mul-T-Lock_C16_Padlocks.html)
CEN grade 6 with trash key (Rotalok Rotating Shackle Padlock http://www.saundersonsecurity.co.uk/acatalog/Rotalok_Rotating_Shackle_Padlock.html)

CEN grade 6 with optional key (Squire Padlock SS65CE CS Euro Body - Accepts Evva Padlock Insert) but I can´t put a evva 3KS only this generic that I do not know if is good
Evva Padlock Cylinder
# Ref: L12722
# For Evva, Squire, Master Bodies
http://www.saundersonsecurity.co.uk/acatalog/Evva_Padlock_Cylinder.html

I will research more about the Medeco, I found this one All-Weather 54 Series and the 7/16" diameters is grade 6 for cutting test and shock test, but don't have the CEN, so I can´t compare so far. Is the key high security?

You best bet might be on eBay for padlocks called "Ingersoll".

They are probably the closest to your chain, unless you are prepared to pay VERY serious money, say perhaps £400+ for a padlock.

Hope this helps a bit?

Well I don't know the specific padlock that Engineer had in mind, but the Sargent and Greenleaf 833c (I think that's the right model) is by far the most hardcore padlock I have seen. Added bonus: you can brag you use the same lock as the US Army/DOD/Gov't/etc. Hope that helped.

Cheers,

TTXIII you got it spot on!

That price was for a "cheap" second-hand one, new they can be nearly double that.

It was the Sargent and Greenleaf 833c

But I´m not sure if a chain with 19mm can be used with this padlock, and is really a lot of money.
Thanks all, helped me a lot.
I promise If I buy one, I will put the photos here

I noticed the body of the lock also say "Ingersoll" on it, for a (relatively unknown outside the UK) British company, they have had some impressive effects on the lock industry worldwide.

Don't forget the locks most impressive claim to fame, it's proof against liquid nitrogen attack as well.
