"CAT" keys

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

"CAT" keys

Postby daniel_f » 21 Apr 2009 18:13

What's the story behind these? From what I've been able to figure out they're a series of keys/keyswitches/lock cylinders with codes like "CAT 45" and "CAT 30". I run into them a lot working with fire alarm equipment, I doubt that's the only thing they're used for though.

"CAT 30" = "Simplex B"
Used for Simplex fire alarm equipment (pullstations, panels, keyswitches ...)

"CAT 45" Notifier smoke detector test station keyswitch

Well, what exactly are you asking? If you already know what they are for (as you mentioned) and ya, they would only be used for the fire equipment..

My code software says these codes are for corbin 5 pin wafer locks cut on a C)-68 blank.

Doesn't say where the corbin locks are used.

"CAT" is one of the many code series used by CCL (Corbin Cabinet Lock) division of Corbin/Russwin. The letter prefixes in the codes designate a particular keyway, as different, say, from their "AUE" series. The number, then, corresponds to the bitting of the particularly marked key. There are several common keys from the series that are used in various applications (like alarm panel locks, utility panel locks, restroom fixture locks, etc.). CAT 30; CAT45 and CAT 60 are some of the common "keyed alike" codes.

CCL hasn't been part of Corbin/Russwin since 1985
