Disk detainer lock info please

Hello people, I recently bought myself a schlage bikelock for fun and I'm planing to make a detainer pick with the dad of a friend of mine, who happens to have metal working equiptment. If it doesn't work I suppose I'l buy one but might as well take a shot at making one. I was wondering how the tensioning of the first disk works. It doesn't make sense to me unless the disk was more of an elipse shape with one side elevated to catch the sidebar. Any info on the tensioning or picking of this type of lock would be appreciated.
