MasterLock #22

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

MasterLock #22

Postby lockpicker90 » 6 May 2009 16:58

I've got a masterlock #22 that i'd like another key for. I went to the hardware store and they wouldn't do it cause they said the machine can't cut the square notches.

A buddy insists that if I go out and buy another #22 master lock it will have the same key but I can't imagine that every series of masterlocks have universal keys.
Is this true?

Don't know about Masters, but there are a few (cheap) lock mannufacturers who batch locks together with the same bittings. An example is budget bike locks, I remember going into a shop and trying the keys on the other locks and they were all keyed alike.

Although it is a trait of cheaper locks from time to time, let us not forget the big boys (*COUGH!*ASSA*COUGH!*EVVA*COUGH!*) who made the mistake also.
What a load of old BiLocks!!!!

the 22 is Warded lock is it not?
in this case you case make a skeleton key
by removing the bitting area of ANY master warded key that shares the same profle.
( i believe there are around four...actually only two but these are mirrored to make 4 ..)

So these skeleton keys...... do they open the lock on their own or do you need other tools?

They open the lock by themselves, since warded locks don't need have a plug to tension.

So I just buy a master #22 lock and file down the middle parts so it looks like yours and it will open it?
If I could get you a picture of the key would that make a difference or is this definitely how to do it.
