Interesting lock I stumbled upon

Postby l0ckp1cker » 6 Jun 2009 12:14

Hi guys,

Yesterday we went to visit a castle here in the Netherlands called "Slot Loevenstein".
It has quite a bit of history as it was used as a prison a few hundred years ago. It is now open as a museum.

I noticed a very old padlock in there, so I took a picture of it. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find any brand marks or anything on it.
Now I'm wondering what kind of lock it is ;)

Here's a picture of the lock:

Unfortunately they wouldn't sell it to me :( ;)

That lock looks shiney, like its brand new, I would think someone, perhaps a dutch member would recognize it as something contemporary.

I embigened the photo (got that word from homer simpson) and no, the lock is not so shiney, but is also showed that its not locking the castle door, its on something that looks like stocks for holding people.

You're right. It is attached to board where a persons feet are put through holes.
The lock keeps the holes close together and so blocking the person in there from coming out. It was used for people having to stand in court.
