My White Whale

Postby sean_1971 » 16 Jun 2009 20:10

Hi all,
I've been lurking and learning for a while now probably around 7 of 8 months and I finally joined up recently. I have to say that I have learned a lot from you all and I thank you for it. I am hoping that I will be able to help some one out some day too. So I figured this was a good one for my first post (Intro thread not withstanding). Here's the problem. I have been able to pick all the locks I have been able to get my hands on, after some time of course, all of them being pin tumbler cylinders, nothing to fancy, with the exception of one. It is a Club padlock, I could not find a whole lot of info on it through their website so I was hoping someone has come across one of these before. I have only been able to pick this one open 1 time and it really bugs me, I'm betting this sucker does not have one security pin in it!! I am hoping that it does otherwise I'll feel like a total idiot  I wanted to put some pictures of the lock and key up for all to see but it tells me that the file size max is 256 kb, sorry. The lock is a "the club" padlock with 40mm stamped on the bottom plate and the numbers 6032 stamped on the bow of the key. It used to have a yellow and black plastic weather resistant outer case. anyone can PM me and I'll gladly supply the pics via e-mail, if that is not against the rules or anything. Thanks for your help.
Sean

:)

www.photobucket.com for all your image needs, just please either use the edit feature to make the photos no larger than 800x600 or use thumbnail links.

You do not need to relink it as you tried, cut and paste works fine.

You know, I bought a combination lock (with one dial like the master locks used in schools) from that same brand and I couldn't even open it with the correct code.
After many tries and a lot of pulling I finally got it opened.

How does your lock open with the key? does it open smoothly?
Does the key insert smoothly?

This makes me think that the manufacturing of your lock is probably that bad as well and this could make it very difficult to pick.

The action is pretty smooth, key goes in easy and the cylinder turns easy also. If I remember correctley the lock cost under $10.00. This lock is a pain I tell you what!!!

The joys of learning.

Don't worry, just keep practicing. Every now and then a lock that should be absolutely simple will throw a curve ball. It happens, don't let it get you down too much. Even the best of lock pickers with years of experience can and will have a problem with easy looking locks. So it's nothing to be ashamed of.

But once you have figured this one out you will be that much better for the next lock.
