Questions about a Medeco Biaxial Mortise lock

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Questions about a Medeco Biaxial Mortise lock

Postby subver » 30 Jun 2009 9:44

I have my eye on a Medeco Biaxial Mortise lock found here: https://securitysnobs.com/Medeco-Biaxial-Mortise-New-Collector-Lock.html
Just wondering: What do they mean by working and non-working keys? I also don't get why it's in "collector locks" section (is this not made anymore or something like that?)

If I were to buy this, what keys should I get? It's only $25, so I'm debating on getting this and the Abloy Protec PL321 padlock (which is also $25)
So if anyone has any info on these keys (and the lock itself), I can't seem to find any.
Thank you!
Happy picking!

I told them this about 2 weeks ago. Super confusing & actually stopped me buying up their locks because I was unsure of what I would be getting.
What a load of old BiLocks!!!!

Sorry for the super confusion, it means how many keys do you want that open the lock (working keys) and how many keys do you want that do not open the lock (non working keys). Every cylinder is already pinned up (including new ones) and there is a book that matches the keys to the locks. Sadly despite our best efforts and the sellers promises, we never were able to get the book. This means if you want a working key we must re-pin the cylinder to a key by hand (thus the higher price for the first key compared to additional working keys). However if you just want it for picking we are happy to just grab one off the shelf and as it saves us time/effort we give that option to the customer in the form of savings. With that said the reason to offer 'non-working' keys is we have a lot of keys, way more than one per lock, so figured might as well offer them (including one free) incase anyone wants them to do something with:))

Hopefully that clarifies things.

Yeah that makes sense. I was just confused, I think, mainly because the "non-working key" was the default key to come with it - so I thought it had to mean something else.
Nice, though, I will probably end up buying it.. I'm just very indecisive with what else I want, I need to ponder my shopping cart first

So we do get a none working key with the lock. That's all I needed to know :D

Is that the default option when ordering?

yes that is the default option. It's $7 for a working key.
I just ordered this with a working key, along with an Abloy Protec PL321 to kick off my collection :D

I bought mine with a working key and also got the free non-working key. What I liked was I got a paper with the exact key code written on it for my lock. It told me the depth cuts and the exact rotations including fore and aft. It was a great help when it came to picking since I could easily dump the pins in a bag and sort them out to my key without having the play the guess and check game.
