Need advice about choosing an electronic lock

Postby Steppencat » 29 Jul 2009 9:08

Hi

I'm very glad to meet fine professionals here and I hope someone will give me advice.

I need an electronic lock to be installed on apartment door. The requirements are as follows:
- it should be a code lock with keyboard;
- it should allow to enter as much one-time user codes as possible (preferrably 100 or more);
- price should be as low as possible (no need for maximum security).
Optional, but strongly needed:
- it should be able to connect to PC via cable to upload information about visits and to be configured from PC (download one-time user codes from PC, etc.);

I tried hard but didn't find such locks, so I'm asking experts here.

Thanks for everyone's answers.

I think the first thing you need to figure out is if you want a deadbolt or a latch lock. If security has any importance than you should go with a deadbolt. The problem with that is the features you want are only usually available in commercial locks and a good residential deadbolt like the Schlage be365 does not have audit trail or 100 codes. If you go with a cylindrical latch then your best bet would be a Schlage King Cobra. They can be had on ebay pretty cheaply. You'll also have to purchase programming software if you wish to view audits. I've worked with hundreds of Schlage/locknetics electronic locks and they are really good.

Alarmlock Trilogy will do the trick. Of course, by the time you purchase the lock, software and cables you'll be about $1400.00 in the hole.

Thank you for advices. It seems that Shlage Cobra and Alarmlock Trilogy both fit fine, though I'll have to research their abilities to connect to PC.
