Is this more like a unique/exotic lock appreciation gathering than a locksport type meeting?
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

Maybe one day the two groups can co-host a large meeting or con. But I doubt they'll let us locksport guys touch any of their locks.

I get the feeling a lot of these locks are gonna be old railroad locks, rusty 1800's locks with and without keys, old handcuffs from the wild west days, and padlocks like the Wise concentric, push key padlocks, and the mickey mouse style lever locks.
There are definitely sub groups in the world of lock collecting. I know myself and many of my friends here only collect stuff from 1950-current and usually only what we deem high security or interesting to lock pickers.
And nothing against a lock show that doesn't happen to have a bunch of Medeco padlocks, or Fichet 787 gear locks, in fact, being so close, I'm tempted to drive out there and check it out.

Antique lock conventions are a place to learn about all types of locks. That is true it will be mostly older padlocks, but you would be surprised how beautiful and interesting some locks can be. It would be quite an education for any lock picker to attend. As with any hobby some collectors are fussy about others playing with their locks, but a lock of collectors are locksmiths themselves and enjoy sharing lock stories.

I would urge anyone to attend this show. There will be lots of old locks, but a number of people will also display/sell/buy high security stuff as well. PLUS, Lancaster is a great place to visit anyway. Check it out at: http://www.LancasterLockShow.com BTW, we would LOVE to include the picking community in this show. I have to admit I don't know a lot about you folks and what you want, but let me know how you would like to be involved: as attendees, as vendors, picking demonstrations or contests, ???? This is the First Annual show and we're very open to suggestions and inclusiveness.

Houston, we have a problem. I just noticed that the July 16-17 date of the Lancaster Lock Show is the exact same days that the The Next HOPE conference is being held in New York City. Many many of us will be at the HOPE conference living night and day at the Lockpicking Village showing off locks, pick tools, running workshops, going to various panels and talks, and socializing well into the night. I am sorry to have to miss out on this lock show in PA. Squelchtone

I live less than five miles from the venue. Weird, this area is usually a dead zone for lockpicking related activity. If any folks are going and need to know anything about the local area, feel free to ask.

As this lock show was coming up, I touched base with the organizer.
"While we are welcoming everyone to attend as a visitor or as a vendor, we have decided that, for this year at least, we will not be having any demonstrations or etc."

Lancaster PA... seems rather odd to have a show in the Amish "capitol". But then again, in a back to basics community, they do have great true craftsmen. I'm sure the Amish know their locks rather well. Without modern conveniences they can hone their craft.
