Falcon makes door hardware, and since a large market share of Medeco's sales goes towards retrofit cylinders, they have to make their locks so that you can attach many different cams to the back of the cylinder, based on whatever brand of lockset you are fitting the cylinder to. Schlage, Adams Rite, Yale, Corbin Russwin, Falcon, Sargent, etc, etc. Since the cam interacts with the lockwork inside the mortised lock in order to throw or retract the bolt or latch, the cam on the back of your Medeco cylinder has to be the right size and shape so that it mates properly with the lock you are installing the cylinder in.
