How to rekey an Almont "re-key"?

Postby hatrabbit » 21 Apr 2010 21:18

Hi, I have an old Almont padlock that I've managed to pick a few times… I also actually have the key for it. I see bits and pieces of the procedure for rekeying these locks using the Almont tools. Can anyone give a step-by-step summary of the whole process? Thanks.

I don't think i can give you step-by-step summary of the whole process
of rekey this padlock, but i can tell you it doesn't look that hard to do so
just get the tools for it
if you don't have the tools, i saw a couples of them on ebay good luck.

Okay, I figgered it out by trial and error… here's what I did:
I had to sacrifice a working key and notch the back (opposite the cuts) about ½" in from the tip, pretty deep. This allows the cylinder to turn a little past its normal stopping point. At this point the cylinder will pull right out of the lock… but before pulling it out I bent a piece of wire to copy the Almont tool to hold the components in the lock body when the cylinder pulls out (You can find pics of the wire tool online). Then it was just a matter of re-pinning the cylinder and putting it back together.
