I need some model numbers for old american locks.

my good camera broke and i replaced it with a video camera... which sucks for pictures so i just made a video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBhNBjSiS0g

@LocksmithArmy:

You had two locks in the video...

The first one with the chain looks to be a Series AMX100W because of the steel shackle, the second lock which you didn't have the key for would be a Series AMS100 as it has a brass shackle...

Some measurements would help positively ID the locks but from the glimpse you gave in the videos those look to be the standard 1/4" shackle diameter and 3/4" shackle clearance locks...

The AMS and AMX series locks were brass body locks, those are definitely the government locks you had in your hand...

If you are referring to the large round body steel lock you had secured in the vice that is definitely a member of the A700 lock series but the specific product series ID number depends on shackle clearance measurement and the number of pins the cylinder is keyed to...

Some info you may find useful about that round body padlock.

NSN 5340-01-346-7462
PADLOCK (BRASS OR BRONZE)
ASTM F883 TYPE P01
GRADE 2 OPTION F
1 EA.
AMERICAN LOCK

I believe the model is ASL40B, and that's based on the NSN number, but those numbers are often used on different looking padlocks that fit the same specs.

In re-checking this on-line, I found an older thread you created on LP101 about the same lock: Subject: American #????

I am going to disagree with squelchtone's ID of the lock made back then which he has repeated here above this posting:

squelchtone wrote:That would be the American Lock Model: AMS100 / Series: MS100

NSN: 5340-01-346-7462

One of the coolest looking padlocks I've had the pleasure to add to my collection.

thanks for sharing your pics, happy picking.

The National Stock Number that squelchtone lists does not match the lock in the pictures that you posted here and in your video, that NSN is equivalent to a commercial Series ASL40B padlock which is a rectangular body brass padlock 1-1/2" wide, 3/4" thick, with a 1/4" diameter shackle (B= brass option shackle), with a 3/4" shackle clearance... The ASL40B lock appears in photos on this page at the American Lock website: http://www.americanlock.com/government_ ... dlocks.jsp

The lock with the cylindrical brass body is definitely a government lock, probably purpose built for some odd need, but I am not able to match it to AMS100/AMS103/AMX100 products, a likeness of which appears in the July 2005 price book on page 14 and on this website:

http://fmgeorge.com/american/gov/ms100.htm
http://fmgeorge.com/american/gov/mx100w.htm

That cylindrical lock is not an AMS100, nor is it the ASL40B referenced by the NSN number provided previously... I would say that it was a mistaken identification... You can double check the NSN chart on the American Lock website using the link provided previously... I do not know what American series or NSN number lock your cylindrical body brass lock is, but is is clearly neither of the above options... Each lock has a unique series number based on its characteristics, your cylindrical body lock is identified by an as yet unknown American Series number...

I'm just going by what the label on the box says. I got this lock brand new on ebay several years ago.

As far as what American Series number it is, it is not either of the options you have cited here previously... By your own information the NSN numbers are used to describe many various locks which are compliant with the usage spec standards...

As far as what an American Series AMS100/AMS103/AMX100 or Series ASL40B is, they are not solid bodied brass locks in a cylindrical shape...

Like I said, it is an unidentified American specialized government series lock... Both of the other possible series locks that have been offered as a possible answer here have been sold commercially and appear in price books and catalogs so they can be eliminated...

This would be a good lock to ask about when you call, as it is not included in the catalogs they release to the general public...
