Australian C4 lock cylinder

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Australian C4 lock cylinder

Postby Grunchy » 20 Oct 2004 17:25

Hello, I have a question about lock cylinders.

If I have a lock from Australia, which uses what they call a standard C4 cylinder, can this be interchanged with other key types such as Schlage, etc?

I am looking for a lock that can work with any commercial key in North America, and I found the perfect lock body for real cheap from Australia but it has a C4 cylinder.

For bonus points: what does "C4" mean anyway? I understand these cylinders can come with 3 to 6 pins.

Thanks for your help!

c4 is the model type..... dunno if it stands for anything.
i doubt you could change keytypes as the wards are of different shapes.

C4,LW4,LW5 are australian standard lockwood cylinders, and schlage fit most lockwood cylinders.

the 3 and 4 pin versions of the c4 keyway are called lw15 i think

c4 means cylinder 4 i think

C4 etc

The cut to cut spacing is the same (Schlage - Lockwood) But the initial shoulder to 1st cut is very slightly different and as such you need to use a spacer.

C4 is the section reference number (lockwood)

it would be interesting to know what type of lock you have because in all honesty it may easier just to get the key blanks sent to you.

the reason being that some plugs aren't made for schlage locks eg. 530 knobset tell us what sort of lock you have
