Good deal or not?

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Good deal or not?

Postby overclockedpc » 24 Aug 2010 22:24

I just purchased a set of two medeco payphone locks (with the plate) from ebay for a total of $15 including shipping. Would that be considered a good deal or should I be looking to spend even less on locks?

Since I am just getting into locks, these are just for me to practice with.

if you're just starting to pick, Medeco is out of your league. and really? you want to spend less than $15 for 2 locks with shipping? like.. how much? like a $1 per lock? That's not realistic. Those payphone locks cost like $75 new EACH. $15 shipped for 2 is a frickin great deal.

But they're kind of useless since they only fit payphones so you cant install them at your house or shed or anything.

visit the local ReStore in your area for great deals on used locks that you will actually be able to pick, or take apart and learn from.

what pick set are you using?

welcome to the hobby, read the forum, read it some more, write some questions down, use Search, then post some posts and we'll try to help as best as we can.

Thank you for the welcome :)

Well, I know that medeco's will be out of my league for now, but I purchased them so I have something of a goal and when I can finally pick those, I can actually consider myself "decent" with locks.

And....I know the $15 was a good deal. I just kinda wanted to brag, but at the same time I didn't know if these locks were maybe obsolete or something to be practicing on so I figured someone will say something.

Picks are a PXS-14 set from lockpickshop.com. I'm sure it's probably a low end set but it's a starting point. Why buy expensive picks (or make picks) if you're JUST starting out.
