Resetting a Master 175 combo lock

Postby Eyes_Only » 11 Feb 2011 13:43

Guys, I have a delima. I have a Master 175 padlock that I need to reset the combination too. I can open it but I lost the rest key that these things come with. Is there a way to do this without the key?
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

All the key does is holds a little spring loaded button in place. Push that in and hold it nice and firmly with something while you change the combo, that's all there is to it. You need to open it with the combo for this to work though, you can't just open it and change the combo. :)

Actually... I've got an m176 sitting in front of me with the same problem... I've poked around inside it but can't seem to find anything I'm supposed to be pushing on...
The BiLock isn't the first bump proof pin tumbler because it isn't a pin tumbler.
And it's called a shear line, not a "sheerline".

I think Master uses the same reset key on most of the locks with changeable combos. The key should be K175. They are only about $2-$3.

but that would be admitting defeat to... THAT. I'd call it a warded lock but then there aren't even any wards...

So you're saying that even though it's open I can't reset the combo without knowing the combo?

It's not a lock, it's a button. The key has a protrusion so that when it's turned it holds the button in.

Yep. And decoding them is an absolute PITA... ken peterson did a video explaining the process but it's not easy to do and results aren't guaranteed either. Master did a good job making a lock which is hard to decode, pity they could never fix the bypass.

Was that video from the "Conquering Bypass" DVD?

It was in the peterson professional security training DVD but it might be in that one aswell. Never heard of that one actually, might check it out. :)

Just push the pin inside. No turning necessary. Release it when the combo is reset. - oops, see this was resolved. disregard
