A padlock from Niger

Postby Wizer » 24 Feb 2011 6:21

I went on a hollyday to the Canarian Islands (Spain), La Gomerra to be exact.
Didn´t find many interesting locks, a 5-pin Azbe euro cylinder (surpricingly hard to pick) and an Amig padlock.
But I did find a shop that sells imported stuff from Africa. There were a few padlocks from Niger, and I just had to get one alltho it was not cheap.
This is handmade, and has 3 "locks" in it. Not really high asecurity but kind of cool anyways..
It comes with 3 "keys":

First you kind of shim the top:

The lock opens a little, then you use 2nd. key :

It opens a little more, time for the 3rd. key:

Here its all open:

On the first "lock" you just shim the little spring open, and on 2nd. and 3rd. you fit the rectangular hole over the spring that locks.

I suppose you could pick this with strong tweesers, but you need a couple minutes to do it if you are not familiar with the type of lock.

What a strange padlock! Very much over engineered I suspect. Nice though :)
What a load of old BiLocks!!!!

I'm probably 0 for 400 in looking for safes behind wall paintings
