Master #130 problems

Yesterday I picked one of these up from the local hardware store after reading a post that they were very similar to the Master#140 and a good step into security pins. I have been able to single pin pick up to and including a 6 pin deadbolt without much hassle(doing DB's exercise) but am having serious trouble with this lock.

The #130 has 4 pins and a quick search of the forum told me that it should have at least one spool.

My key cut is super shallow for pins 1 and 4 and two deep ones in the middle. (the first is so shallow you can easily see the gap between driver and key pin from the front). I think pin 4 is the problem, it never seams to bind or set no matter how much or little tension I apply.

Any suggestions or information would be great.

You definitely should not be running into a security pin in the 130. It sounds like you might be out of the binding order, if you are getting a false set on 1-3 somewhere then 4 won't be a possibility. Have you tried raking it? Most 130 and 140 take a few good scrubs and there open, give it try!

Thanks for the thoughts gapper, yeah I have been able to rake it a few times but just cant seam to SPP it!

I wouldn't have thought so either about the security pins but found this:

Master no.130 has security pins in all 5 that I have there's at least 1 spool. Maybe you got lucky.

More info: If I set no. 3 and 4 there is quite large rotation of the cylinder and no.1 seizes up completely....

My guess would be that one of the two pins you set is a security pin falling in to a false set, and pin #1 is seizing completely because it doesn't have a security pin in its pin stack. That would allow the plug turn some, but will pinch one of the pins in the first stack at the shearline. If you ease the tension, you should be able to move the first pin.

The alternative to this scenario is pin #1 has the security pin. While setting pins 3 and 4, you' accidentally moved pin 1 in to a false set. Again, to overcome this, ease up on the tension and press upward on that pin. If you feel the plug counter-rotate while pushing up on it, or it begins to move, you can correctly set the pin.
