Sargent Degree

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Has anyone seen these or have more info on them? The info is a little sparse on their website: http://www.sargentlock.com/products/pro ... em_id=2081.

http://www.sargentlock.com/file_broker. ... nt_id=6949

It looks to me like a M3 variant with 3 security levels (Bi-Level equivalent, M3 w/o drill protection, and M3 with drill protection and UL rating). They also have multiplex keyways and seem to sell only to end-users and not through locksmiths like Medeco does.

I'd be curious to see an exploded diagram or something since it seems unlikely that they'll be available in the wild any time soon.

I sat through a webinar yesterday on the Degree system. This was a sells pitch from Sargent to locksmiths.

This system is the Medeco M3 system. Everything about it is M3. All 3 patents listed for the system are the Medeco patents. (7,552,608, 6,477,875, and 6,945,082).

Sargent even seems to be copying Medeco's Key Control for key blanks. It seems that ASSA Abloy has taken the Medeco system and decided to share the wealth with another of their companies.

@shadow11612:

Calling Sargent and Medeco different companies at this point is fantasy...

They are both American divisions of Assa-Abloy along with many other lock companies...

This "Degree" system seems to be the next level of progression in Sargent's high security line as the V-10 patent is nearing its end, the Signature line is way too easy to modify the open keyway blanks to create unauthorized Signature keys and KESO is discouraged for new systems...

Porting over M3 technology to a new set of Sargent keyways seems like a good use of the patents to me and a profitable business decision for Assa-Abloy...

Those LFICs look the same as Corbin-Russwin LFICs...though it's hard to tell for sure. They're also an Assa Abloy company, so I guess it wouldn't be too surprising.

@misterj:

You are making that statement based upon the appearance of the front of the cylinder plug...

The shape of the LFIC itself as well as the location and size of the core retention lug are still Sargent in design and in no way are compatible with Corbin-Russwin LFIC...
