Is this a Large Format (LFIC) or Small Format (SFIC) Schlage

Postby cdub » 9 Sep 2011 21:29

Hi all,

New to the community, new to picking, but been interested in locks ever since I can remember. Decided its time to work for myself instead of the man, so I'm trying to learn as much as I can about the locksmith industry. Someday, hopefully I will be able to quit my job and start my own business. Got a long way to go, though.

OK, now that the obligatory first-post introduction is out of the way, to the point:

Are these Schalge cores small format or large format? I think they're large format, but the seller (ebay) insists they're small core.

If they are large core, does anyone know if its possible to find a SFIC Schlage (C keyway) core?

Thanks!

Those are LFIC, but I think Schlage calls them something else... But they are definitely not SFIC as you cannot get a Schlage C keyway in an SFIC format.

they are referred to in the schlage catalog as FSIC or FULL SIZE interchangeable cores but also LFICs by most people. but there are many different kinds of Large Format ICs. Schlage makes a small format IC that fits BEST style SFICs but they are much less common. Hope this helps :)

I too think those are LFIC. The control lug is way different from the BEST style SFIC lug.

Thanks, guys. You confirmed what I was thinking. The control lug is what made me skeptical as well.

Too bad, though, as I'd love to have some SFIC Schlages to play with :(

Are we talking about picking, right? The cylinder format has nothing to do with picking. Enjoy your new locks, they're not bad at all
