Re-pinning Kaba-Peaks SFIC

Postby cdub » 10 Sep 2011 18:21

Forgive my ignorance, but I've never had a chance to look at a Kaba-Peaks core in person. I'm presuming they use some non-standard / proprietary pinning system, and one can't simply use a A2 system components?

Thanks

The pinning is more or less the same as A2 system. You can download the technical or service manual.
One thing the manual doesn't address is how to make a deep cut near the peak steeple in one flow.

You can not make a cut deeper than (I believe 6...) with common cutters like CW90MC If you do, you'll shave off the peak. The manual suggests using an asymmetric cutter like 1011 (used for car keys and such) for that position, but the 1011 won't provide the proper bevel on any other cuts. So, they haven't addressed how you can make a key on one machine without having to swap wheels.

Deep cut on the cut closest to the bow should be avoided due to susceptibility to key breakage, but it should still be doable.
