Lockwood 001 deadlatch

Postby minifhncc » 11 Jan 2012 22:31

Hello,

Just wondering, does a Lockwood 001 (with its standard barrel) require a plug follow that is different from other C4 key way locks?

I have an Argus follower that works with 530 and 201 cylinders and the alike, but I've never tried it on the standard Lockwood 001 locks.

Thanks

Hello,

I've just been told by someone that you used to need a different plug follow for the inner lock of the 001 for the OLD lockwood 001 locks (ie. the ones without the fire safety release feature).

Is this correct?

Also, why did the old ones need a different plug follower for the inner lock? Would just like to know for my own information.

Thanks

You could use the same follower on the old 001's, you just had to pull the lock apart further. The different follower you mentioned enabled you to rekey while still leaving a majority of the lock body assembled.

There is a plug follower for the old 001's that went through the back cam on the inner cylinders, if you are rekeying the cylinder you should be taking the top pins out and balancing the pin stack anyway. There is a large clip that goes around the turn snib, removing that will allow you to take the cylinder out. Also while it is apart it would be a good idea to clean out all the grease that Lockwood put in there, it was good 10 years ago but now, most the time it stops the key from working properly as the grease dries and seizes the internals. WD-40 is good for cleaning them out.
