Ball bearing padlocks

Postby spidersilva » 27 Feb 2012 22:08

Anyone here have any ballpark idea how much lbs. of brute pulling force this mechanism can take before failure ?
I'm talking about some of the massive models of abloy and multlock , and not junk padlock or low security models

Obviously it would be much easier to either drill or cut this padlocks , but I still wonder how much force is needed to defeat the mechanism by using pulling in order to deform the shackle at the cut area and the balls themselves

I imagine this discussion is a bit on thin ice by forum rules.

That said there is some pretty clear marketing detail for the ABUS Granit Plus 37/80RK is listed as being "The strongest padlock with over 25,000 pounds of tensile strength" on
http://lockitt.com/PadlockHighSecurity.htm#abus3780
Which seems fairly innocent to link to.

Further, they do detail beating up padlocks; rather non-scientifically; with a sledge hammer at:

Given all but the low security unit survived this arguably isn't destructive entry and does give a bit of a feel for strength.
