Bypass Medeco lock by turning knob repeatedly? See video.

I don't know if this is the proper place to put this.

I live in a dorm. One of my suitemates discovered that the lock on my door seems to open from locked position if it is twisted back and forth repeatedly.

Does anyone know why this happened?

My knob appears to be loose as well.

Here's the key:

Medeco didn't make your entire knobset, your school just uses Medeco cores inside that knobset. That knobset could have a Sargent, Schlage, BEST, or any other brand core and it would still do that trick.

Best thing to do is to put in a work order with campus physical plant and have them replace it or repair it, show that trick to the locksmith/maintenance guy and tell them it's unacceptable to have a worn out lock on your dorm room suite door. Make sure an RA also knows about it, keep them in the loop.

Thanks for the info. Sorry for posting the key. I didn't know that it was a security risk. I just wanted to show that it was a "Medeco".

As for the lock, I plan on having it fixed tomorrow.

For future reference, this trick only works on loose, old knobs?

Yes, since the mechanics are all loose, there's so much play in it. Jiggling or turning the knob as you have done can cause it to pop open.
