What is this demon!?

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

What is this demon!?

Postby Comrade627 » 29 May 2013 23:13

Someone....please....explain this demon.
I found it a couple months ago, try it quite often and I don't think I've ever properly set a single pin. I've scrubbed, raked, SPP, you name it. I don't have any spare keys that I can impression with though. I don't know the model, how old it is, nothing. It feels functional, but im not sure at this point.

It's an old American Lock Co. Military lock. Which is pretty obvious :)

I don't know how tricky the pins are, but I suspect that several are spools. I would love to see it opened up. Good luck.

American are not known for spools in the traditional shape we know today. That locks is post World War II, probably 1960's or 1970's, so it most likely has serrated pins. All 5 key pins and all 5 top pins should be serrated making picking a really fun time and considerable challenge.

OP: look around for any of the many American Lock breakdowns here and look at the pins. Try some Locksaver or WD40 in the lock as well, never hurts to lube up a 50 year old lock before picking.
