Best locks (Brand name best)

Postby commadore » 5 Dec 2013 16:03

I have a buddy that owns a small paint shop. He has the brand name Best locks and has them master keyed. His store and his neighbor store share a room that has the heating system in it, the door to said room is inside HIS store. So he lost the key, I don't know how you loose a key off a keychain but whatever (he only has 3, 1 master, 1 boiler, 1 store doors).

So he called me because I got him into his car a year ago (lol seeing a pattern?). I reluctantly came because for me everything changes once i'm at a business because i'm no locksmith.

I saw the Best brand lock and he confirmed it was master keyed. I specifically remember seeing a post started on here with a picture of a best lock that someone picked and got all messed up.

I did not pick the lock and told him I could damage it because it was master keyed.

Whether that is true or not I don't know and that is basically my question, I just told him that confidently cause it didn't feel right.

Indeed, there is a chance of damage when you pick master keyed locks. Especially with raking or if you bump them. There are be small "master wafers" in which are essentially rather thin pins between the keypin and the driver pin. Than can get stuck and all kinds of horrors might happen.
You can pick master keyed locks, they are in fact easier to open than non master keyed, but be careful and extra gentle. :)
Also, disclaimer: never pick any lock which you don't own unless clearly, specifically and expressedly authorised and asked to do so by the owner of the lock.
To infinity... and beyond!
