Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Unknown Keyblank type

Postby quantboy » 13 Dec 2013 12:05

I was called to an apartment building to make a duplicate key for the front door. I can not identify what the keyblank type is... It looks similar to the Medeco 1518, or Medeco A1517, but not exactly the same. Anyone have any ideas?

I believe that is one of Clark Security Products' restricted keyways.

It would be easier to ID if we got to see the keyway of the cylinder. Can you post that?

Also, shouldn't the building management know who they got their keys from in order to make more copies? If a tenant is asking you for more copies it is because they don't want to pay the property manager for a copy.

People have come here in the past trying to get a copy of a restricted key of an apartment, garage, pool gate, to give to a room mate, a girlfriend, etc, etc. Don't get suckered by some tenant trying to save a buck.

The apartment manager should be able to help you with this information.

Could it be a Standard Keil/Hudson? It's got a really similar shape to the Hudson HL3 blank, too. Maybe?
