AVA deposit box lock - breakdown

Postby Rickthepick » 31 Mar 2014 9:22

I recently worked on some old chubb deposit boxes and decided to take some internal shots for the lock geeks out there.

Its a simple and robust system, unfortunately replacements were no longer available.

I have a spare for sale (uk only) to any collectors interested, when im finished playing with it.

Considering how many 100's of systems there must be worldwide it's simply ludicrous that Gunnebo can no longer support the systems. A great opportunity to come up with a retrofit solution !

Indeed!

Although the AVA system is dated it would have made sense to provide a retrofitting modern alternative.

I guess the intention is to supply complete new cabinets instead of allowing maintenance of old stock.

It has to be 50 years old

I hate to see the old cabinets be tossed aside like garbage when parts become obsolete
I have many of the safe deposit locks in stock that are currently used in the US if you
want to post measurements I would be happy to compare yours to what is available here.
I am assuming you don't already have access to the lock measurements used in the US

Hi RIck,

Wow, double Chubb Ava mechanisms makes for a rather secure lock - very nice. Thanks for showing us this lovely old lock.

I tried posting on your blog but couldn't get pass the crazy kaptchas

I'd be interested in the extra one you have - I have a UK address I can use - sending PM now :)

Kind regards,

Sean

When I read the post I thought it was from this March rather than 2014.
