Awwww Yisssss.

This just arrived in the mail today, big thanks to Marduk28/Lockman28

It feels very solid and weighs more than I would have imagined. Works very smoothly and it's actually fun to go through the process of unlocking it.

I hope to write up more, but Marduk has already covered it so well with his videos and photos, so it would be hard to top.

For those not in the know, check out Marduk28/Lockman28's original Forever Lock video, which received 1 million views in just 1 week.

I would like to see it subject to an angle grinder. ;)

Awesome! Very glad I could get one to you!

I am now in the process of designing new packaging, new instructions, and a new website for the lock.

With any luck I can get this lock properly available from my online store and maybe even into a few retail stores in the near future.

If any LP101 members have interest in the lock, feel free to contact me directly and I will do my best to get you one as soon as possible!

Bad news: The lock was opened by bumping: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4f1H6mYHOI

P.S. This guy is a well known SSDEV member and safe expert. There's no reason for me to doubt it.

time to make the key cylinder an Abloy clone like Kryptonite uses.

One thing I should explain bembel is that from my own research, the lock mechanism was invented to fight thieves in Taiwan who seem to carry around jigglers and try out keys and have the most common cut keys to all the motorbikes that are very popular in that country, and nobody really cuts using large bolt cutters because there are so many people always around. This mechanism certainly does a good job in slowing down a bad guy who has a bunch of try out keys on a key chain, but as the lock becomes more popular and takes off as a bike lock for cycling enthusiasts in the USA and Europe, traditional methods of attack such as cutting with be more common, and I had no doubt that bumping would work, it was just a matter of time.

I would love to have the machine tools at my disposal to take out the cylinder in mine and replace with an ABA or Baton generic Abloy clone and then modify the key to fit into the holder as the current key does. I think that would actually make the security of the lock significantly better.

*just watched the video, :-) is that Ollie I see? He is a very good guy =)

your thoughts or opinions?

Great idea, Squelchtone. A disc detainer lock cylinder would prevent bumping. As you say, for the theft environment for which this lock is designed, it is quite good, and a decent detainer system, such as an Abloy, would make it better.

I knew sending my locks to SSDev members would result in a very "thorough analysis", HAHA.

Using a disc core is a great idea and I think that would certainly make the lock more secure. I will definitely be talking to the designer about this.

I have been in touch with Oliver and he told me about his work. He is very nice and polite. I have thanked him for his time and effort in discovering more about this lock.

Let me know if you guys have any other great suggestions or comments!

You guys are the best! =)

Is there a way to make the inner locking sleeve longer so that it can engage a cutout in the other leg of the shackle and then make the shackle removable and get rid of the hinge and that cut out which gives the hinge room to move? I think that would be an improvement and I know you and I briefly chatted about the idea of a removable shackle.

Thanks,

That is one thing I definitely want changed as soon as possible also.

The good news is, from preliminary talks with the designer, he said that it definitely is possible to do.

For anyone who is curious, it was designed with the hinge simply because it is a style that the Taiwanese consumer base is used to. He is aware that most U-locks sold in the USA and Europe have completely removable shackles, but honestly, he never even thought he would sell these in the West- so he just stuck with a familiar design for the locals.

Posted this over on Keypicking but also wanted to update here too~

Over the last 5 months or so many people have sent me a link to the video of Ollie bumping the Forever Lock. In fact, due to the way the video was shot, many people e-mailed me thinking that he just hit it with a hammer, and thought a bump key was not even necessary.

When that original video came out I showed it to the designer and he was shocked because he had personally tested the design for bumping but could not do it. After watching the video he even tried again just to confirm, but he still could not bump it. We were both left scratching our heads and didn't know how it could be pulled off.

Bosnian Bill recently put it to the test to get the answer~

Very happy there is now an independent, high quality video, which gives us a new perspective!
