Trouble with warded lock: masterlock 22

Postby TL140 » 13 Nov 2014 0:35

Hey guys,

a bit new here so im sorry if this is the wrong area.

I am having a tough time with this lock. This is the first warded lock I have tried to pick and i cannot seem to get it open. I read the warded lock guide on this site and I do as instructions say. However, I figured out that for my warded key set, i use the small, two tooth, dual sided key. I can feel the spring tension halfway in and i try to turn halfway and compress, and that will pop the shackle out halfway. But alas, it still will not pop ALL the way out. What am i doing wrong?

Welcome to the forum!

I notice that this is your first post, so forgive me and some other members if we give you any extra scrutiny for a little while. Don't take it personally, as we just want to keep common crooks from picking our brains. This really is a great forum with a huge wealth of information and great people. You should learn a ton here. So, onto the lock:

I assume you have a warded pick set, and that's what you're using? Maybe you aren't getting the tool deep enough, or maybe the lock has grime in it?

Can you give me some more details on what the lock goes to, the condition of it, and so forth? If you have the tools, it's pretty much the easiest kind of lock to pick. Just use the tool about like how you'd use the key, and it will come open faster than an average college girl's legs on Mardi Gras night. Just keep working on it.

Yes! I have the warded pick set and its what I am using. The lock is a lock from a coworker to his locker. (thats a mouthfull!) he knows I like lockpicking as a hobby and it was a new kind of lock. I am fantastic with pin and tumbler locks and have a great southord set. But like i said, first time picker of warded locks. The lock is pretty clean overall. And I did get it open yesterday! Took about 2 hours but I think I got the hang of warded picking. And I am at work right now so youtube is blocked :(

Basically, once i felt the first set click (may I remind you it was in the middle of the lock) I had an extra security pin in the very back of the lock. Depressing that and pulling the shackle, it popped right open!
