Hey yall. Has anyone picked a brinks R80? Searching brinks R80 and nothing shows up in the search tab.
I've been strugleing on this lock for quite some time now so if someone could point be in the right direction that would be a huge help.

Are you already skilled at picking the other Brinks locks? The return spring is quite strong on most of the disc locks, making it more difficult to feel the feedback of the pins through your pins and tension wrench. If you do not have the other Brinks locks down pat, it may be a good idea to work with them a bit more before trying this lock. It all comes down to balancing the tension against that spring yet not so much that you lose feedback.

Good luck, and keep us informed.

Gordon

I'm new to picking Disk locks, and only have a Dimond pick (made from windshield wiper inserts). Is that a good pick to use? also thanks for the tips!

What picks are you using? (I just saw your reply) and what kind of tension wrench? Also, to mirror what GWiens2001 asked, is this your first lock ever or have you picked open other locks before? Also is this lock in use on something or are you holding it in your hand? That can make it harder/easier to pick.

Search for R70 the R80 is the new model so not many posts about it yet.

Here's a video of one being picked open.

I've had some decent experience with picking padlocks and gun locks. I have constructed a Dimond pick, under the key and over the key tension wrenches. (all from windshield wiper inserts)
Bills video was the only thing I have found on the Internet about this. Not shure if he's just realy good at picking locks or the lock is easy.
EDIT: also the lock is conected to something

that lock has spool pins, if you aren't sure what those are, you may not be ready to pick such a lock, spool pins are security pins meant to slow pickers down.

Get a Brinks deadbolt at Walmart for $12 and take it apart, then pin it up 1 pin stack at a time until you can pick all 5 pins. Then you should be able to pick the R80 easily. Also, if you have a key for it, insert the key and turn the plug to see how much force is needed to rotate the gear drive shackle.

Also, we dont know what your home brew diamond pick looks like, maybe that's what's causing you trouble. Upload a photo of it next to something common like a dollar bill or a quarter or house key so we can see the size and angles on it. http://imgur.com or http://tinypic.com are good places to upload photos and then Copy/Paste the URL into your reply here.

good luck,
