Abloy Enforcer 341 Padlock

Postby BSG_314159 » 10 Mar 2015 9:49

Just started collecting locks and someone on craigslist in my local area is selling 3 Abloy Enforcers 341 locks. I talked him down to $60 for 2 locks with 2 keys each. Is this a good deal for these locks? I see alot of buy it now on eBay for 69.00 but have not seen what they go for on bids.

Thanks

fun fact: The Enforcer is an aftermarket name laser engraved on stock Abloy padlocks. Abloy is such an unusual and goofy sounding name to most Americans that it would be difficult to sell it as a tough padlock to people like truckers. So this company came up with a brand and it sure sounds more bad ass to call your line of padlocks and hasps Enforcers than plain old Abloy. I'm not sure how much if any permission from Abloy they needed to stamp another name onto the lock, it would be interesting to get the full story.

Those locks usually come with the high profile keyway, which is shaped like a C It's nice to actually get them with more than 1 key.

Here's the company that sells them as The Enforcer, I don't think the page lists retail prices though http://www.transportsecurity.com/abloy-padlocks.html

but yeah, if you google, each lock goes for about $75 bucks new so that's a good price you got.

What's the difference. I know one is double sided. Does that mean it has a higher level of security.

Wow, that Novell could use a cleaning!!!

The high profile is an older design, and is made for a lock to only turn in one direction. Many of the ones cut on both sides are made for markets outside of Finland, where the hardware is designed to turn in one direction to lock and the other direction to unlock.

G-dogg, I think that's an older Exec, which is a surprise to see in an Enforcer! very similar looking bows

As far as I'm aware, the 'Novel' design has as different key bow design. Released in 2011. The lower key is in fact for the 'Exec' mechanism, which is a lot earlier than the 'Novel'.

Nice summary from datagram here: http://www.lockwiki.com/index.php/Abloy_Exec

EDIT:  Oppps, Squelch types faster than me

Left lock is the one with the executive key (boron) on shackle and the right one does not.
Right lock has B20 and the left(executive) does not

The double sided bitting is just a convenience thing really, each bitting surface is a mirror of the other.
The size and shape of the keyway as well as changes in the number and angle of the cuts (as well as less obvious things like adding false gates and other tricks to complicate tensioning, picking, and decoding) are what make them relatively more secure. The Classic and Profile were replaced with later designs in part because picks and decoding tools had been made for those designs as well as the usual effort to have patent protected mechanisms and keyway/blank designs.
