First Pin tumbler lock!

Postby BSG_314159 » 12 Mar 2015 21:54

So this is what happens when you have to much free time. (NOT FINISHED YET)

I started reading the history of Pin Tumbler locks for the hundredth time and thought that would be a cool lock to own. :)

Here is my attempt..

I know this might not be historically accurate but i used what i had in the garage.

That's super cool!

Nice job. Now I would make one with different length pins.

Ok, that's really cool. Very creative and way to jump right into the fundamentals of how locks work.

Are those cartridges used as the key pins?!

Nice job!

That was one of my choices but I used my left over brass tubing from my medecoder build.

My next one will have a different arrangement of pins
I will also change the length as well. Simular to this example I found on Google.

You might try what I did as a teenager. Instead of simple key pins, make them more like a 'C' shaped wafer.

At rest, the bottom of the tumblers block bottom shear line. Lifted too high, and the top of the tumblers block the top shear line. It makes it easy to have different height needed on your key.

Really like your initiative in making the wood lock. Looks good.
