Hello chaps,

A little bit of background. The theatre where I work currently has offsite storage for props costumes furniture etc.
As far as I'm aware the building itself is around 100 years old and was used as a furniture makers.
Goods were made the horse drawn carts were brought in and the goods taken to the nearby harbour and transported to various parts of the country.

The building is still in nearly original condition with stables and individual workshops where finishing etc would take place.

On almost every door are these...

I think they say bisseel and co Wolverhampton

I had a brief search and came up with a little info:

http://www.historywebsite.co.uk/Museum/ ... issell.htm

The building is currently up for sale by the trust that owns it (us) probably for redevelopment into flats etc.

Does anyone know anything about these locks?

Would they be worth anything as I / we would rather see them got to a good home than be put in landfill.

The current thinking is that they would have to remain in place as part of the building but my manager has said if a couple "fell" off no one would probably notice:)

I hope you found this interesting.

Cheers

Well, if your company owns the place, you should remove them and sell here
If you're just working there and the building isn't your company property but just a renter, you shouldn't touch them.

That said, it would be a shame to throw away said locks, since they're a piece of history. I'm not saying they're worth good money, just that many collectors may be interested in having one, for the right price. So I appreciate your effort in this direction and suggest you to keep in touch with the building owner and discuss the options you have about the locks. You may even be allowed to take them all for free...

Keep us updated :)
