Key Decoding

Postby metroid9824 » 30 Apr 2015 17:02

Hey guys,

I thought I'd share with you this Excel tool that I made. It's sort of a poor man's key decoder. Basically all you need is a caliper/image editing software to get the depths and this spreadsheet and it makes it really easy to decode pretty much any pin-tumbler key. So instead of buying a decoder for every lock out there you can just use this.

Anyway, here's the link. Maybe someone else might find this useful.

Feel free to give me feedback to make it easier to use, or any bugs.

I too always use a caliper for decoding, however I just read the depths off of my HPC cards. Your spreadsheet is handy for those who don't have code cards. It might make a nice little app for a phone.

Nice. It would be helpful as an offline solution.

Here is the one that I use at my desk:

The results are nice and simple and on one page. And cledry, it also works well on a phone if you have to use that.

When I attempt to put my measurements in 'average measured depth' it gives me an error about the cell being read-only.

So basically the way I have it set up, you input the measurements in the blue table, from Row 15 to Row 24, and you can add up to 10 measurements (sort of overkill, unless you're trying to decode it from an image), and it will automatically calculate the average. If you want to just input it directly, you can either use the quick test box, or just Unprotect the sheet (there's no password, just right the Decoder tab at the bottom and just hit Unprotect).
