Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

I'm sorry if this question has been asked before cause i know it has to be somewhere in the vast amount of information stored here. i did use the search with the words "military padlock" & i did read all 132 hits. I found a ton of great information & a long interesting write up about the history of them from squelchtone but did not really find just a simple list of the high security military padlocks. Google also did not help much. I am trying to collect 1 of each them & i think im getting very close but cant really find a list anywhere. I dont need to know every variant of each model or every keyway for example, 826a, 826b, 826c but would like a basic list of just the high security military padlock types. These are all the ones i know of & i think it might be all of them, Ingersoll 10 lever locks Miracle lock corporation with ava core & ingersoll 10 lever core Hi shear Lk 1200 S&G 826 S&G 831 S&G 833 S&G 951 Napec padlocks, not sure on the model numbers but i think theres 3 different ones? Abloy 655 & 656 not sure if these were used by military or other branches of the u.s. government? If you know of more please add to the list.

Napec DCP 1381 (dual custody ship board locks, rare) S&G 832 prototypes (some floating around, I had one once) S&G 844 (rare, have seen 3 on ebay in 15 years) here's a link for you in case you have not come across it yet: http://www.antique-padlocks.com/

Yes, the Abloy 655 and 656 were both used by the US military. The difference between the two is that the 655 has a chrome finish an the 656 is brass.
Don't know if you are considering the smaller S&G combination padlocks which, while not very resistant to DE, are difficult to open by manipulation and were used for filing cabinets and other places in which classified materials were stored. Those would be the models 1951 (or 1961 - not sure which it was), the 8088, and the current model the 8077. There were some a, b, c submodels tossed in there as well for good measure.

Thank you, I might add that the 656 has a thicker 12mm shackle as well. Ive been thinking of collecting the combination & smaller locks also just because the only ones i dont have is the 826 & the ones squelch listed & i may die before i ever find those locks. if anyone here would like to see pics of any of these locks let me know? I just dont want to bother you all with a rerun of things you have already seen.

I had the privilege of being allowed to play with one of the Napec DCP locks that belongs to another member. Was actually surprised to see that they are smaller than expected. There is a great write-up on them here by yet another member. Look for it! Gordon

I experience physical pain looking at the pics of that NAPEC lock. Took me a long time to accept that it's the one DC lock that will forever escape my grasp.

The lock that Gordon got to play with. Apparently the padlock versions are really rare and the shrouded versions are "common" I have a replacement cylinder for the right side but it only came with the left one.

Even those of us old to the game barely see these. I have never seen one on ebay or actually come up for sale elsewhere.

My first time was in 2012 at the Lockmasters break room where the Harry C Miller museum spills over and the entire break room is lined with display cases full of some rare and exotic locks.

Yeah, you never forget your first NAPEC DCP padlock. Have been looking for one of these for years, and have only handled this one. Gordon
