Medeco diagrams?

Postby pointofview » 30 Oct 2003 14:04

I've been looking for a while now, and I can't seem to find any diagrams or cut-aways of how a Medeco lock actually works. I know that it has to do with the angled cut of the key. Does this mean that there's a tumbler on more than one axis, like in the side of the cylinder?

If anyone can clear this up for me, that'd be great.

The brand new Medeco 3 or M3 as they call it, has a sidebar with a rotating pin similar to Schlage Everest.

The older Medeco biaxial (still used even in the 3 series) actually has a bevelled AND offest tip.

If you can visualize how a standard pin looks, if you shaved one side, you would have an older style Medeco. If you shave one side of the pin, and don't have it centered on the pin, you now have a Biaxial pin.

The pins are still located on the top as in a standard cylinder.

Hope that makes sense.

Does anyone know where there may be a diagram of any old or new Medeco lock? I'm interested in learning the ins and outs of these locks.

Go here: http://www.medeco.com/ and click on the link to to "The meaning of high security" and watch the video presented there. It's full of information, and at one point, one of the slides shows a breakdown of a standard biaxial Medeco lock.

Hope that helps.

http://www.crypto.com/photos/misc/lockpins/index.html

And a few of the pictures on the below link show how medeco locks work. Please note that these images may be difficult to load in mozilla. You may have to save as a jpg and then view.

meh.. having to register and download PDF files in a pain the butt, try Google Patents instead. http://www.google.com/patents

or if you need Medeco diagrams, try this Medeco Service Manual: http://nynex.mysite.com/TOOOL-US-Boston/PDFs/Medeco/MEDECO-Binder-1.pdf

Enjoy,

Those pin images and descriptions are AMAZING! Great for sharing, now granted it's a bit more dated, but there's some very good information in this thread!
