Impact Door, Bottom bolt Dropped

Postby stratmando » 26 Sep 2021 9:11

Had a Call yesterday, they said key Turns and unlocks the Hurricane Impact door, but won't open, determined Deadbolt and upper bolt were retracting, bottom bolt was not lifting. Thought about drilling lock out grabbing the rod and lifting. Then had an Idea to look at another door to determine location, as you can't see it, got a thin right angle hook and another thin tool and walked up. Door opened, never see the bolt. Extremely narrow, even after leveraging up with a couple screwdrivers. We removed the door, Bolt had unscrewed. Rescrewed in. All good.
Sure didn't want to Drill or do any Damage.

Amazing how a bit of thinking can save a lot of time and money.

You ain't kidding, Think that was the Only option, Removing the Locks, or Going through Door and working from the Inside, would have done nothing. It was Lucky to have another door to see where Bolt was located, I never could see the Bolt, was a very tight fit.

I have used feeler gauges, or even a piece of paper to do that. Have also used sheets of paper to find where antique safe doors are binding so they can’t close.
