Yep, only key, was fiddling around and well... I feel really stupid but, well I wanted to keep the keys with locks  I didn't mean to close it

I'm gonna have to make a set of picks for this aren't I? I know this should be easy but after 20 minutes I have to admit I don't know what the hell I'm doing...it'll be fun figuring it out though :)

I guess the time is now! Practice your key duplication skills!

It's not like you have a jigsaw without the box lid.....

Hehe, well _thats_ funny!

I'd suggest to bend a pice of brick-strip to an L-shape, with the short part beeing long enough to act as a key. This way you will experience less interference with the shackle(and the key on it , have i mentioned this is funny?). Then you should be able to cut a key modeled after the original one, utilizing a rotary-tool (e.g. dremel). I'd suggest using cutting wheels instead of grinding stones for this job. This could take some time as the brick strip is quite hard. Remember to wear safty glasses and let the speed of the tool do the work.

Looks to me like it has 3 levers.

The reasoning for this is that the tallest point near the end is almost certainly the way the locking mechanism is withdrawn. The slot closest to the bow of the key is where the key has to pass the lock body as you turn the key.

You can try passing a 'L' shaped piece of spring wire into the lock and see if the locking lever can be operated while all the levers are in the bottom position. Then try lifting all the levers to the highest position and see if you can operate the mechanism.

OK, all this has failed, so you can try to pick the lock. I am sure there are guides here somewhere for picking lever locks. You can count the number of levers with a probe or small hook pick.

Hi there, As you've locked the key on the shackle I take it that this lock just 'snaps' shut, without the use of a key. Why not try banging the lock with a rubber mallet:- High left, Low left, High Right, Low Right, do this whilst pulling lightly on the shackle.

if all else fails I mean everything you could cut the hoop of the key to fit it over the shackle....but i assume you want the key in prime condition...so this coule be you last resort

antique key

Postby keysman » 13 Jul 2005 7:16

It shouldn't be too hard to manufacture a key for that.

Just take the (solid) head of a key an cut it off .

Use that "chunk" of brass to fashion a key.

Use your files , dremel ,ect to fashion a near likeness.
It doesn't have to be pretty, It just has to work once.
