The Mark 4s came out as either the red or the yellow which, the differences
between the two models' factory settings are are inside the locking
mechanism on the door. The easiest way to tell, though is that Chubb colour codes the wall directly opposite their safes door. In the mark 4s case, this is either red or yellow.
We need to know if it is the red or the yellow Mark4, and we can then get to
asking you the right questions for it. Although I have only been dealing
with these for a while, I still may be able to help you but you really want
MCM or DB to guide you through it, but I'll see if I can help.

Anyway, how did you manage to get the cover off without the key?

Are you saying that it is locked with the back of the lock off?

Here is a site with a description and lot of pictures (even one of the change key), might be helpful: http://www.codesmiths.com/shed/locks/manifoil.htm

Even have picks of the manual here: http://www.jarkman.com/album/manifoil/

You can use a modified S&G change key - no problem.

A really interesting document about these locks is the ASIO service manual, the tolerances etc that the lock has to conform too are really tight.

It sounds like you either unlocked one or more of the wheels and they are moving around while you dial the combo, or you just managed to change the combo. I would assume it's the first one because I can't imagine changing a combo without realizing it, and then closing the door before testing the combo. If the wheels are spinning, you might be able to feel it through the dial when dialing it quickly. I have to say, I'm kind of confused as to how the back cover being removed makes this a trivial lockout.

I dont tthink ill have any problem opening it ....i had the safe givern to me open as the chap couldnt remember the code and had no use for it so i took the back cover off the lock and watched the wheel pack for the combo which i found was set to defult setting 50 40 30 0 as it is a side opening.....at this point id like to point out im not a locksmith just someone who likes to participate and learn much more......i also have a 114 pin n cam set been sitting in my loft for about 9 months (ebay) now ive made meself 144 lock with see through cover i might get that out and give it whirl

Finding the combo with the door open is trivial, how do you plan on doing it with it locked shut?

Its actually going to be harder to open with the back cover off as there should be a relocker in there.

Ok, so the safe is there, without the back on the door, and sitting in your house?

Why on earth do you need anything clever? Just turn it round so you can look in the fixing holes on the back. Shine a torch in one, and look through the other. Now turn the dial whilst looking at the pack, until you open it. 30 seconds tops, even on a dodgy lock.

And remember, next time, don't lock the door *shut*!
