Pick Proof?

Postby Shana » 26 Jun 2005 12:26

Newbie picker but fast learner already able to pick the yales and some of the chubs but struggle against this baby.
anyone know what type of lock this is?
ive included various pictures and have cut her open to show what she offers within.
If i can find out what lock it is i can at least narrow down the picking tools i shall need to open her.

Just to add the cylinder has little rods that are housed in the sides that are engaged into the barrel when incorrectly picked thus locking the lock from the sides. (forgot to put the pics of the rods in so imagine they are there please)

Its pickable, what you have there are sidebars in your lock. Do a search on them and you should be able to find more information.

Ok, first off, nothing is pick proof, its a matter of how pick resistant it is. Lock with sidebars can be picked open, its just much harder. Instead of only putting the pin past the shearline, you now have to align it with the sidebar. YOu should see notches in all your pins. These are for the sidebar to lock into if the wrong key is inserted. Now its just up to you to get pass the sidebar. What is the brand of the lock btw?

It's not Bilock.

What you have there is EVVA 3KS - very nice lock & highly secure - I should know I use them on my house for that reason

Yeah i seen that presentation frost, and your right he did pick the lock, but firstly he was one of the very best pickers, 2ndly he actually commented on how he thought the lock was as near to pick proof as you can get, and thirdly, it can ONLY be picked if you first know the combination for the sidebars.
so would all agree that this could be the lock for the lockpicker that has accomplished the other locks?
what can be better than this lock?

Pick proof isn't really the unicorn it's made out to be. If it's mechanical, it can typically be picked, decoded, overlifted, or impressioned. If not picked then normally you can do one of the others. Practically NDE proof on the other hand is more impressive. As far as I know, a lot of safe combination locks fall under this category but there may be some secrets I'm not aware of with some of the ones I consider to be NDE proof. The best examples I can think of being the X-08 and X-09(maybe if I'm lucky someone wants to prove me wrong on that). As for pick proof, I would consider the GM sidebar lock, and the Western Electric lock to be pick proof. I'm sure there's more as I have used the term pick proof to describe more than two locks but I can't remember them at the moment. From what I've seen of Brinks Lynx that too though.

The GM sidebar lock is pickable. Automotive locksmiths do it on an almost daily basis.

Before you ask, no I won't say how. That is for the advanced sections.

Has it already been talked about in the advanced forums because if it was there I probably would have seen it. The thing that comes to mind involves a drill. I don't really consider that one to be picking. If it's not that or one of the three alternatives to picking could you send it my way in a PM?
