single pin sidebar?

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

single pin sidebar?

Postby kspec » 1 Jul 2005 20:54

sorry for my ignorance. but i had a handlelock with a single pin on the sidebar. is this to prevent picking without a tool to press on this or is it to take out the plug? I did a search but when i type sidebar i get ALOT of findings. not of what im looking for. sorry to the veterans that have to repeat the same info again. presuming this is is somewhere in the thousands of posts

If the pin points outwards towards the lockcase then i imagine its so you cant insert the key if the pug has turned, and if pointing inwards to the keyway it may be to align the sidebar or the key does have a cut to accomodate it,

Im sorry i suppose i shouldnt realy have posted as i dont properly know but it may just give you some pointers to have another think at it, i wouldnt have thought its for removeing the plug though.

thanks. any type of info is better then none, thanks. I wish i had the key for this but i got this one for free, at an appartment building. they threw out the whole door so i went and took the lock off. I wanted tom get the deadbold but unfortunately the door was gone the next day when i came back with tools ( I took the other one off with my torque wrench!!! )

To be honest i prefer locks with no keys as i always cheat and look at the key if i havent opened it straight away

Any chance of a pic or even the name? may be able to find more out then especially if i or someone else can give you the name of the lock.

the only info on it is that it is a door knob lock and it had a UL in a circle on it. the plug looks fairly new compared to the knob itself. sorry thats about it
