Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

schlage cylinder

I pulled out the cylinder from a deadbolt & got the plugs, springs, etc. out. So, how do I put the springs & plugs back in the housing? Do I take the cover off of the back of the spring housing? If so, how?

1st timer. :?

First off, if you tell us the type of lock it would help. In normal deadbolts, you'll probably have to pry to chamber cap off and load the chambers that way. You say that you've taken all the pins and springs out, so you'll have to do the above, whereas if you had used a plug follower, you could have kept the driver pins and springs inside the cylinder (top chambers) and re-pinned the plug (if that's what you were intending to do... re-pin)

If you don't know what a plug follower is or how it's used, go here:

The second last post from cracksman is an especially good site.

Hope this helps. Post with more info and an update. :)

It's also definitely possible to do this without a plug follower. Manuver the springs into position, then use the plug to guide top and bottom pins into position, using the flat side of a pick to press them into place. Bring forward the plug as you go--just make sure the pin stacks don't line up with the plug.
