I am just wondering how I can take apart a Defiant door nob lock so that I can take pins out and put them in and possibly see what happens to the pins when I am picking them. i have yet to find a description of how to acctually do this although I have searched. Could someway give me a step by step? It is off the door already and I do have the key. Thank you.

That is a pretty in depth process buddy. A locksmithing manual might be for you if that's what you're shooting for.

It is an indepth process that will take some time to type out for you, there are a few quick guides on disassembling kwiksets and if you look for those and follow them with a bit of common sence you will be able to dismantle yours as well.

Thank you for answering anyway. I did get it aprt all the way down to just the lock part and now I am practicing. I can pick some realatively easy-average locks but not consistantly. Any tips on what to do to get better at picking with this new lock I have? Also, I can pick it with pins very easily but once i put in a fifth pin it takes a while, any suggestions?

If you're looking for something like a display rather than a working cutaway, you could always just take apart a simple Kwikset from somewhere like Lowe's, take it apart, and tape it to an index card. I did this and put the key under the pins as they were flat on the card to show how it looks when the correct key is inserted. I did labeling for each part of the lock and such too. It makes a nice demonstration when you're showing someone how a lock works. I think you can buy those cutaways though, but I've always seen them for like $30 or something.
